Pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic telehealth experiences in providing comprehensive medication management (CMM) and other clinical services, comparing pharmacy types.
An online survey targeting pharmacists across 27 pharmacies was designed to ascertain telehealth adoption rates across three pharmacy classifications: independent, clinic-based, and retail. A secondary analysis examined whether telehealth-delivered CMM services improved, had no effect on, or negatively impacted the care of diverse patient populations, including those with diabetes, low-income individuals, and those aged 65 and older.
While independent and clinically-integrated pharmacies saw an increase in telehealth utilization during the pandemic, no corresponding shift was seen in retail chain pharmacies. Despite limited funding directed towards telehealth connectivity, the first two types of pharmacies displayed a marked increase in usage. Utilizing telehealth CMM, pharmacists in both independent (63%) and integrated (89%) pharmacies during the pandemic achieved patient connections previously unavailable. Pharmacists and pharmacies widely viewed telehealth as a practical and suitable approach for CMM delivery.
CMM via telehealth is now a familiar and desired path forward for pharmacists and pharmacies, even as the pandemic eases. To keep this service model operational, sustained investment in telecommunications, training, technical aid, and continuing reimbursement for telehealth services from health insurance plans is paramount.

Image-based analyses of neural activity have been shown to pinpoint cognitive deficits in individuals with a history of childhood trauma. This research investigated potential discrepancies in executive function between individuals who experienced childhood physical, emotional, or sexual abuse (n = 37) and those who did not (n = 47), using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) during cognitive tasks. In comparison to the control group, the child abuse group demonstrated a markedly greater incidence and number of commission errors on the Conners CPT test. The analyses, utilizing the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), revealed a statistically significant decrement in oxyhemoglobin (oxy-Hb) concentration in the left rostral prefrontal cortex for the child abuse group, in comparison to the no-abuse group. On the OSPAN and Connors CPT, the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) of the child abuse group displayed a comparable, yet insignificant, decrease in oxy-Hb levels. There was a reported outbreak of illness and death in a colony of African dwarf frogs (Hymenochirus curtipes) after it was brought to the animal research facility. Upon arrival, some animals were found dead or went into a state of decline quickly thereafter. Other animals showed symptoms of lethargy, diminished weight, and a lack of appetite over the following three weeks. Affected animals presented with multifocal areas of hyperemia on their limbs, in the inguinal and axillary regions, and a mottled tan discoloration marked the ventral abdomen. Consistent with generalized septicemia, histological analysis demonstrated the presence of granulomatous meningitis, otitis media, peritonitis (coelomitis), myocarditis, pericarditis, nephritis, pneumonia, and arthritis. Analysis by Gram staining uncovered gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria, unconfined and present in tissues as well as inside macrophages. The results of coelomic swab cultures indicated a moderate to substantial prevalence of Elizabethkingia miricola. Water tested from tanks where affected animals were kept demonstrated elevated levels of nitrites and ammonia, concurrently with the presence of Citrobacter, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, and Staphylococcus species. Material was cultured using biofilters from various tanks. The internet-based, passive psychoeducation intervention, “Free From Abuse,” was examined in a pilot randomized controlled trial for its effectiveness in promoting healthy relationships among young adults. Intervention treatment or placebo control condition was randomly assigned to participants aged 18 to 24 years; the intervention group had 71 participants, and the control group had 77. Participants in the treatment group experienced a more significant increase in recognizing abusive behaviors and a decrease in the acceptance of domestic violence myths compared to the control group participants both at the conclusion of the intervention and one week afterward. Preliminary data from this study highlight a potential benefit of brief, internet-based passive psychoeducation in cultivating healthy relationships among young adults.
An iatrogenic ophthalmic artery occlusion (OAO) secondary to a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) dermal filler injection for facial rejuvenation, is documented with the use of ultra-widefield imaging and submitted for reporting.

In the left glabellar region of a 45-year-old female, a PRP dermal filler injection was followed by a sudden and agonizing loss of vision in the left eye (LE). No improvement followed the immediate intravenous corticosteroid treatment she received. An ophthalmological examination, including visual acuity (VA), fundus examination, ultra-widefield fundus autofluorescence, fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography, was completed two weeks later. Iatrogenic OAO in the left eye, with severe ocular ischemia present, was diagnosed, leaving visual acuity at no light perception. Scheduled follow-up visits, occurring monthly, were designed to detect the emergence of any eye-related problems.
